Stunning Facelift on Pennsylvania Avenue!

Normally, you’d expect to this kind of quality work from Dr. Lee on Rodeo Drive, in Beverly Hills but it’s right here in Wilmington, DE courtesy of Dr. Anthony Pini and Pinnacle Scaffold.

This wasn’t just a little nip and tuck for 2300 Pennsylvania Avenue but a full-blown facelift or exterior restoration worthy of any housewives of NJ, DC or BH. I know what you’re thinking.

It didn’t just address the loose neck-skin and sagging jowls of this aging building – it repaired the dermis, stretched the skin back behind the ears and pulled a new tight facade that just screams to the traffic passing by: LOOK AT ME!!!

And isn’t that point of a facelift?  To breathe new life into a perfectly good structure?  Of course it is.  And that’s just what Bancroft Construction wanted for this 51 year old building when they hired Pinnacle Scaffold.

Let’s face it, you get what you pay for – and when you are talking about your face or facade why on earth wouldn’t you hire the best?  As Tony P says, “Rent it right. Right product, right service, right price, RIGHT NOW!”  And I have to agree.

Before we get into the details of the complete renovation, I have to mention a really cool aspect of this scaffold.  Pinnacle performed one of the slickest scaffold moves out there to preserve the natural look of the landscaping surrounding the building.

The entire scaffold was erected around the two enormous trees on the side.  They are hundreds of years old and they had to make sure they weren’t damaged at all.  Check out how the crew built around the large limbs.  Most people would have just chopped off the limbs.  Eeek.  You can’t just “chop off things” that make you look good.  Ask any good plastic surgeon.

Our crew did a brilliant job of letting the beautiful branches poke through the netting and specifically built the system scaffold around these tree parts.  It’s just another way Pinnacle goes above and beyond for the client.

And because we decked out the scaffolding at each level to allow multiple trades to work simultaneously we were able to capture what goes into prepping and finishing a job like this in various stages. Check out these photos and just how great the new exterior is going to look!

And finally, there’s the ramp at the top of the stair tower. It had to span the gap and give enough room to act as a landing platform for material while not taking up much room.  Again, our guys did a great job.

Now for some details of this facelift. We scaffolded and netted ¾ of the building so that multiple crews and trades could work simultaneously so Bancroft could remain on schedule and within budget.  We used system scaffold all the way around for ease of assembly. There were over 3,000 planks used, an awesome stair tower for access, and the best erectors money could buy.

What was being done with this facelift, you ask.  New windows, repairing stone veneer, caulking, coating, skimming, tightening up, removing wrinkles, blemishes, and sharpening the look.

This was a tough project with a quick and immediate turnaround and Bancroft knew to hire Pinnacle to get the job done right.

As Tony P, the honorary mayor and soon to be presidential candidate says, Rent it Right, son.  Rent it right!

There’s no need to go to Beverly Hills if you need a facelift, access, scaffold, or a mayoral candidate just call Tony P, at (302) 766-5322 or visit www.pinnaclescaffold.com today and rent it right!

Today’s musical number just fits what’s going on with this project.  Enjoy.

Pinnacle Scaffold builds temporary Press Boxes at the University of Delaware Stadium for the Fightin’ Blue Hens

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4355

EDIS came to Pinnacle Scaffold with a question.  How can we build temporary press boxes for the football season on the bleachers, across the field, while the new $60 million dollar stadium expansion/facelift is going on?  We have people calling the game, scouts, announcers, press and members from both teams who need to be able to conduct business as usual.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4421

The big guy, and honorary Mayor of Delaware, Tony P, looked around and then said, “On the bleachers, huh…?  No problem.  Let me handle that.”

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4396

The man who loves a challenge then said, “And we can put roofs over them and have observation glass installed to protect from the elements.”

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4354

Their response, “You can do that?”  “Absolutely,” said Tony P.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4353

Well, needless to say, they were thrilled and the resulting buildings are awesome.  But not so fast.  It wasn’t as easy as it looks.  Tony P had to devise a way to get these structures built ON TOP of the bleachers and that wouldn’t be easy.  He brought in the guys at Alternate Design Solutions to handle the engineering – making sure that the weight distribution would be correct on the stands so they could support everything.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4352

ADS did their calculations and recommendations and then sent those to EDIS and the University of Delaware for approval.  After a few back and forths to make sure the weight calculations were spot on – the approval came.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4404

The Pinnacle crew was off and running.  Some specialty steel would need to be added beneath the boxes themselves to distribute the load.  The Fightin’ Blue Hens would be in business for the entire season!

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4420

The other obvious challenge to building this out of scaffold was that each piece would have to be carried by hand up the bleachers and then put into place making it a labor intensive job.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4408

Pinnacle created the shell and the University of Delaware brought in someone to do the woodwork and interior because they had to bring in all of the necessary electric, video, audio and radio feeds necessary to make this a fully functioning press box.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4413

And look at how it turned out!  Each box is 14’ by 28’ and will keep business as usual as the Whitney Athletic Center comes to life on the other side of the field. (click here to read about the new athletic center)

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4412-1

These boxes will last the University through the season until the new improved addition is finished in the summer of 2020.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4360

And just as a side note: We added two stair towers on the opposite side for crews to access the new construction at Tubby Raymond Field.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4364

We were proud to help keep the Fightin’ Blue Hens up and running for the 2019-2020 football season. EDIS and the University of Delaware were pleased with the result.

Time, Money & Expertise, Hyatt Place Wilmington / Riverfront

pinnacle scaffold, scaffolding, scaffold, hyatt place, DE, non union, open shop, scaffold rental, 3655This was a job that came down to time and money – and if you think about it – aren’t all jobs really, at their core, about that?  Of course you want the best crew in the business and the best customer centric company to work with on a project like this but it really comes down to time and money for that expertise.

pinnacle scaffold, scaffolding, scaffold, hyatt place, DE, non union, open shop, scaffold rental, 3673So when GGA Construction calculated it would be faster to use scaffold rather than high reaches to complete the exterior of this large job at the Hyatt Place Wilmington / Riverfront, they called Wilmington’s scaffold leader, Pinnacle Scaffold, to do the work.

pinnacle scaffold, scaffolding, scaffold, hyatt place, DE, non union, open shop, scaffold rental, 3678At first, they thought the expense of scaffolding the entire side of this six story building might be prohibitive but once they calculated the many moves, days and sections using other methods they realized that with Pinnacle they actually saved time and money.

pinnacle scaffold, scaffolding, scaffold, hyatt place, DE, non union, open shop, scaffold rental, 3649They realized that with scaffolding they could rock multiple trades simultaneously to do the work quickly and efficiently as opposed to one trade at a time with high reaches.

pinnacle scaffold, scaffolding, scaffold, hyatt place, DE, non union, open shop, scaffold rental, 3664Pinnacle and their main man, “the honorary Mayor of Delaware”, Tony Pini, also designed a way to tie into the windows using compression ties instead of the traditional method of tying directly into the exterior of the building. This allowed the entire side of the façade to be open and accessible for the different crews to work uninhibited to get the job done as quickly as possible.

pinnacle scaffold, scaffolding, scaffold, hyatt place, DE, non union, open shop, scaffold rental, 3661And like I said above, isn’t that what it’s all about?  It just so happens that Pinnacle has the best leader and crews in the business as well – so double win for this Hyatt Place Wilmington / Riverfront Hotel!

pinnacle scaffold, scaffolding, scaffold, hyatt place, DE, non union, open shop, scaffold rental, 3659Pinnacle Scaffold came in with system scaffold that was roughly 300’ long by 60’ high, decked in at every level to allow total access.  And once this side of the building was finished they dismantled and moved the scaffolding to the opposite side.  At the time of these photos we had scaffolding around the end as well – with a trash chute.

Pinnacle Scaffold erects a monster at the University of Delaware.

There’s really no other way to say it.  This job is big!  Look at the photos.  It’s over 1800 lineal feet of scaffolding encasing 143,000 gsf of new student residences at the University of Delaware in Newark.

Who was big enough to take this on?  Who was bold enough to create an access and working platform for multi-trades at every level at all times all around this structure?  Who could the GC rely on for constant changes, updates, and a moving target of issues from a multitude of vendors?

non-union-scaffolding-scaffold-pinnacle-scaffold-302-766-5322-open-shop-shoring-de-pa-nj-md-357

Only one man could pull this off – Mr. Anthony Pini!  Now, I have to say there were a ton of other people involved who helped make this a reality (his head tends to grow to Guy Smiley proportions when I pump him up).  But in all seriousness…

non-union-scaffolding-scaffold-pinnacle-scaffold-302-766-5322-shoring-open-shop-de-pa-nj-md-246

non-union-scaffolding-scaffold-pinnacle-scaffold-302-766-5322-open-shop-shoring-de-pa-nj-md-317

And truthfully, when there are multi-trades all over the scaffold each trying to get their time in to finish the job you want a man like Pini to handle the details and changes that all of these companies need to finish their parts.

If you need access of any kind, especially on a historic building, call Pinnacle Scaffold today at (302) 766-5322 and ask for Tony.  He will take good care of you.

This appropriate song from the band The Calling (also appropriate) fits for today’s musical interlude.

Scaffolding Delaware Landmarks

Pinnacle continues its march through the historic district and landmarks in Delaware. (see our post on the Josephine Fountain) We are proud to help our hometown renovate and refurbish these incredible statues and edifices. We pride ourselves in being the very best at getting crews access to historic structures without leaving a trace – and this statue is no different.

Located in the heart of downtown Wilmington, DE (Rodney Square) stands a statue to Caesar Rodney, an American lawyer, politician, signer of the Declaration of Independence and President of Delaware during most of the American Revolution.  The monument commemorates Rodney’s ride from Dover to Philadelphia on July 1-2, 1776 to cast a tie-breaking vote for the Delaware delegation, and thus ensuring Delaware’s support of the Declaration of Independence.

And around that statue is scaffolding erected by Pinnacle Scaffold, also from Delaware, to help crews get access to the entire statue for renovations. The statue was created by James E. Kelly and stands in the front of the square.

Our crew took the utmost care to design, deliver, erect scaffolding that would allow renovation crews the ability to refurbish the base, (repointing, cleaning), shining and polishing the statue and bringing the monument back to its former glory.

We also added debris netting for containment while the guys did their work.

As I’ve said before, we love working on historic projects and are proud to lend our support to this prestigious one.  If you need access, scaffolding, or lifts call Tony P at Pinnacle Scaffold today (302) 766-5322 or visit www.pinnaclescaffold.com to see more of our work.

More on Rodney square: Rodney Square presently includes green space with landscaped borders, paved, perimeter walkways, cast stone walls, stairs and balustrades, and 12 bronze lanterns. Two concrete fountains flanking the west steps serve as a memorial to William Poole (1853-1918), a descendant of an early Quaker family and former head of the Wilmington Fountain Society.

Pinnacle Scaffold provides support for renovation of Josephine Fountain

The well-known feature at Brandywine Park in Wilmington, DE has been taken out of operation and is undergoing a major restoration project.

The Josephine Fountain, which was dedicated in 1933 and named after the late wife of Attorney Joshua Ernest Smith, has sustained significant structural damage after severely cold weather in the winter months.

Pinnacle Scaffold was brought in to aid in the restoration process because of our flawless track record dealing with historic buildings, statues and artifacts. It takes a scaffolding company like Pinnacle to make sure the project is done right and everything remains the way we found it.

Here you can see the scaffolding we erected to get the renovation crew to their designated elevation. We used system scaffold and decked it in on 3 levels (where the crew will dismantle the statue). We took the utmost care while assembling to make sure nothing was harmed.

The park brought in surveyors who discovered it needed critical restoration work.

The work will require the statue and fountain to be disassembled and temporarily located off-site for the work the commence. It should be completed by summer of 2017 when it will be brought back to it’s original glory.

And since this beauty is going to be down for a little while we thought we’d play this little ditty for ya.

And here’s a bit of history for you: Ernest Smith, who donated the nearby cherry trees in 1929, gave the fountain as a memorial to his wife, Josephine Tatnall Smith, following her death in 1931. After the fountain’s dedication in 1933, the entire area was designated “Josephine Gardens.”
