Chestnut Hill College, Smokestack Scaffold

Deep on the northwestern edge of Philadelphia, on 75 acres overlooking the Wissahickon Creek, sits Chestnut Hill College and this giant smokestack.

Opened in 1924 as a Catholic, four-year, liberal arts college for women, the campus and smokestack, at 9601 Germantown Ave, have been a staple for almost one hundred years.

If you’ve been to Chestnut Hill College or the Morris Arboretum you have probably seen it towering over the main building on campus.

Well, as pretty as she is, it’s time to make her shine like she did when she was built.

Pinnacle Scaffold was called in to erect a system scaffold all the way around this 100’ tall functioning smokestack so restoration crews could get to every inch for repointing and repair.

Pinnacle also attached a material hoist to help get equipment up and down the entire smokestack.

The biggest challenge was super-fast turn around needed to get the scaffold up and crews working.  We literally had two weeks from the phone call to the completion to get this job done.  But one call to Pinnacle made it happen.

The other challenge was that we used steel beams to span over the to the structural steel of the roof on the building next door to help shift the weight of the scaffold off of the lower portion of the smokestack below. Everything went off without a hitch on time and within budget.

Thanks to Chestnut Hill College for bringing us along on this prestigious restoration.  We look forward to many more.  And if you get a chance to hike Wissahickon Creek I recommend it.

Scaffolding the Playhouse on Rodney Square, Wilmington, DE

When you are in downtown Wilmington there are two things you really need to see.  One is the newly remodeled DuPont Theater – now called the Playhouse on Rodney Square.  The Playhouse was opened in 1913 as one of the select theaters on the Broadway touring circuit. After 100 years, it is the oldest theater continually on that circuit. In addition to a full schedule of Broadway productions.

And then secondly, you need to meet the honorary Mayor of Wilmington, Tony P.  Because without him and his company, Pinnacle Scaffold, you might not have the illustrious remodel at the playhouse.  You see, when something needs to get done in Wilmington you call Tony P.

Under a super tight deadline to complete the theater renovation, Sundew Painting (one of the top painting companies in the area) called Pinnacle to bring the heat.  And boy did they ever.  In record time, Tony P and his crew got the scaffold in through the back alleys and galleys and erected a massive scaffold with dancefloor so restoration crews could get access to everything; the walls, ceiling, curtains, nooks and crannies, doors, entryways, you name it.

Pinnacle crews managed the tight load in and out from the back alley.  They handled the pitched/tilted floor.  They navigated the multiple elevations and curved design of the scaffold to get to every surface inside the theater.

But most importantly, they handled the tight deadline to get this 1252 seat theater renovation done and get the plays rolling again.

The result is a stunning new looking place to experience live theater.  This venue is steeped in history.  And now it’s going to carry on into the future with one of kind events that will be sure to create lasting memories for all attendees.

We are proud to have been a part of this historic renovation.  So next time you are in the area, stop by the theater and then ask around to find Tony P.  He’ll most certainly be renovating some of Delaware’s finest.

And if you need scaffolding, access, or just need something to get done in Wilmington, call the honorary Mayor, Tony P, at Pinnacle Scaffold (302) 766-5322 or visit www.pinnaclescaffold.com today.

And for our musical number we have this… Enjoy.

Rockford Falls, Scaffold Work Deck Over Water

Question: How do you get crews under a bridge over water to do mechanical work when scaffolding isn’t an option?

The good people at LC Construction were struggling to come up with a solution to this almost impossible question. The ground under the bridge was unstable with the ever changing stream floor and worse yet, If the water were to rise the scaffold could be washed away.

But they knew the honorary mayor of Wilmington, Mr. Tony P, when they had worked together on the project just to the left of the bridge called The Falls.  So they called Pinnacle Scaffold again for a quick solution.  And they didn’t disappoint.

Tony P took one look at the job and remembered the special pigeon hole stands that are designed to suspend powered scaffolding or safety lines through existing or core drilled holes in a concrete or steel structure.  That would allow him to drop a suspended scaffold line down through the concrete to hang a system scaffold work deck or platform with the weight supported from the top and crews could safely work beneath above the water.

Problem solved.  It’s not a huge job but it was another successful solution for Tony P and Pinnacle Scaffold team.  The job went off without a hitch and we are proud to work with LC Construction once again.

If you need quick, out of the box scaffold or access solutions call Tony P today at (302) 766-5322 or visit www.pinnaclescaffold.com today.

And Tony P picked the musical number to accompany this post. Enjoy.

You’re bloody well right – Scaffolding Green Hall, Princeton University

When Princeton University and Elite Restoration needed to do parapet and facade restoration at Green Hall, they called Pinnacle Scaffold to do the job right. Right company, right people, right price, right equipment – we do it right.

Yes, I took the title of this post from the Supertramp song but when you know you know.  Or as the magical, dark eyed, reading babe says, (WYKYN).  Maybe she can put an acronym to this like Pinnacle Scaffold – (YBWR).

Ergo – You’re bloody well right.

And what a job our guys did with this scaffold.  They had to design a system scaffold that would allow restoration crews access on two different roofs of the building without disturbing the landscape or the flow of pedestrian traffic at the hall.

So, Tony P, the mastermind of PSC (and honorary mayor of Wilmington) devised an access point at one corner of the building where he could house equipment, attach a hoist and a trash chute AND build a stair tower that would allow people access to both the upper and lower roof all in one area.

And he did it.  Just look at the pics.  They spanned up and over the lower roof allowing the necessary access to that part of the job while at the same time allowing the second crew to go up and over to the higher roof and work up air, as they say.  Brilliant.

It’s amazing to me how simple Tony P and our crew make it look.

But it’s really a complicated maze of system scaffold, trusses and aluminum plank that created these two work decks and access ways.

As I said, we had to be mindful of the landscaping on the property and we did everything in our power to keep the trees, grass, and shrubbery untouched.

Elite has been rocking the restoration and making the old building look fantastic and function like new.

So maybe our new slogan should be, “You’re bloody well right!” (YBWR) Right company, right people, right price, right equipment – Pinnacle Scaffold, we do it right.

Thanks to Elite Restoration and Princeton University for allowing Pinnacle Scaffold to be a part of this job!

If you need scaffolding, access, or fantastic solutions call Tony P today at (302) 766-5322 or visit www.pinnaclescaffold.com today.

And of course – we have to attach the song that started it all.  Enjoy.

Stunning Facelift on Pennsylvania Avenue!

Normally, you’d expect to this kind of quality work from Dr. Lee on Rodeo Drive, in Beverly Hills but it’s right here in Wilmington, DE courtesy of Dr. Anthony Pini and Pinnacle Scaffold.

This wasn’t just a little nip and tuck for 2300 Pennsylvania Avenue but a full-blown facelift or exterior restoration worthy of any housewives of NJ, DC or BH. I know what you’re thinking.

It didn’t just address the loose neck-skin and sagging jowls of this aging building – it repaired the dermis, stretched the skin back behind the ears and pulled a new tight facade that just screams to the traffic passing by: LOOK AT ME!!!

And isn’t that point of a facelift?  To breathe new life into a perfectly good structure?  Of course it is.  And that’s just what Bancroft Construction wanted for this 51 year old building when they hired Pinnacle Scaffold.

Let’s face it, you get what you pay for – and when you are talking about your face or facade why on earth wouldn’t you hire the best?  As Tony P says, “Rent it right. Right product, right service, right price, RIGHT NOW!”  And I have to agree.

Before we get into the details of the complete renovation, I have to mention a really cool aspect of this scaffold.  Pinnacle performed one of the slickest scaffold moves out there to preserve the natural look of the landscaping surrounding the building.

The entire scaffold was erected around the two enormous trees on the side.  They are hundreds of years old and they had to make sure they weren’t damaged at all.  Check out how the crew built around the large limbs.  Most people would have just chopped off the limbs.  Eeek.  You can’t just “chop off things” that make you look good.  Ask any good plastic surgeon.

Our crew did a brilliant job of letting the beautiful branches poke through the netting and specifically built the system scaffold around these tree parts.  It’s just another way Pinnacle goes above and beyond for the client.

And because we decked out the scaffolding at each level to allow multiple trades to work simultaneously we were able to capture what goes into prepping and finishing a job like this in various stages. Check out these photos and just how great the new exterior is going to look!

And finally, there’s the ramp at the top of the stair tower. It had to span the gap and give enough room to act as a landing platform for material while not taking up much room.  Again, our guys did a great job.

Now for some details of this facelift. We scaffolded and netted ¾ of the building so that multiple crews and trades could work simultaneously so Bancroft could remain on schedule and within budget.  We used system scaffold all the way around for ease of assembly. There were over 3,000 planks used, an awesome stair tower for access, and the best erectors money could buy.

What was being done with this facelift, you ask.  New windows, repairing stone veneer, caulking, coating, skimming, tightening up, removing wrinkles, blemishes, and sharpening the look.

This was a tough project with a quick and immediate turnaround and Bancroft knew to hire Pinnacle to get the job done right.

As Tony P, the honorary mayor and soon to be presidential candidate says, Rent it Right, son.  Rent it right!

There’s no need to go to Beverly Hills if you need a facelift, access, scaffold, or a mayoral candidate just call Tony P, at (302) 766-5322 or visit www.pinnaclescaffold.com today and rent it right!

Today’s musical number just fits what’s going on with this project.  Enjoy.

Pinnacle Scaffold builds temporary Press Boxes at the University of Delaware Stadium for the Fightin’ Blue Hens

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4355

EDIS came to Pinnacle Scaffold with a question.  How can we build temporary press boxes for the football season on the bleachers, across the field, while the new $60 million dollar stadium expansion/facelift is going on?  We have people calling the game, scouts, announcers, press and members from both teams who need to be able to conduct business as usual.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4421

The big guy, and honorary Mayor of Delaware, Tony P, looked around and then said, “On the bleachers, huh…?  No problem.  Let me handle that.”

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4396

The man who loves a challenge then said, “And we can put roofs over them and have observation glass installed to protect from the elements.”

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4354

Their response, “You can do that?”  “Absolutely,” said Tony P.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4353

Well, needless to say, they were thrilled and the resulting buildings are awesome.  But not so fast.  It wasn’t as easy as it looks.  Tony P had to devise a way to get these structures built ON TOP of the bleachers and that wouldn’t be easy.  He brought in the guys at Alternate Design Solutions to handle the engineering – making sure that the weight distribution would be correct on the stands so they could support everything.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4352

ADS did their calculations and recommendations and then sent those to EDIS and the University of Delaware for approval.  After a few back and forths to make sure the weight calculations were spot on – the approval came.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4404

The Pinnacle crew was off and running.  Some specialty steel would need to be added beneath the boxes themselves to distribute the load.  The Fightin’ Blue Hens would be in business for the entire season!

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4420

The other obvious challenge to building this out of scaffold was that each piece would have to be carried by hand up the bleachers and then put into place making it a labor intensive job.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4408

Pinnacle created the shell and the University of Delaware brought in someone to do the woodwork and interior because they had to bring in all of the necessary electric, video, audio and radio feeds necessary to make this a fully functioning press box.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4413

And look at how it turned out!  Each box is 14’ by 28’ and will keep business as usual as the Whitney Athletic Center comes to life on the other side of the field. (click here to read about the new athletic center)

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4412-1

These boxes will last the University through the season until the new improved addition is finished in the summer of 2020.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4360

And just as a side note: We added two stair towers on the opposite side for crews to access the new construction at Tubby Raymond Field.

pinnacle-scaffold-scaffolding-de-university-of-delaware-blue-hens-press-box4364

We were proud to help keep the Fightin’ Blue Hens up and running for the 2019-2020 football season. EDIS and the University of Delaware were pleased with the result.
